Cricket is known to be a game of spirit and joy. But sometimes, the spirit of the game is also affected due to some instances, making fans question the behaviour of players and coaches. A incident has emerged in the international cricket scenario, related to Women's cricket.

A former Bangladeshi Women's team player has put down allegations of harassment by the selectors and manager. These statements have been given by Jahanara Alam, who was also the captain of Bangladesh Women's team at a time. Taking a break from the game, she currently lives in Australia and opened up about the incident.

1. Jahanara Alam’s Allegations

Jahanara Alam has been a notable figure in Women's cricket, who has also served as the captain of Bangladesh Women's team. After taking a break from the game, she was not seen by the fans for several months. Just as the time passed by, Alam to open up about the reasons why she took a break from the game.

Alam was a part of a podcast of a famous Youtuber, Riasat Azim. She said, “During the 2022 World Cup, Monju Bhai (Former pacer, Manjurul Islam) used to hold and press us to his chest, hold us tight, and bring his mouth near our ears. He said 'When your period is over, tell me. You have to look after my side too; you have to understand this.’

These are some serious allegations which have been put forward by Jahanara Alam against the former Bangladeshi player. Till now, there have been no actions taken by Bangladesh Cricket Board or even the former pacer. But this matter has started to go viral, with fans also expressing their concern towards Alam.

2. Jahanara Alam's Career

Jahanara Alam made her debut for Bangladesh in 2011, and played for the team for more than a decade. In 2024, she decided to take a break from the game due to which she even missed out on the 2025 Women's World Cup. It was unclear to the fans why she had taken a break from the game and started to reside in Australia.

In her international career, Alam was a crucial part of the team across the limited overs format. She has not played even a single Test match for the team in her 13 years long career. She was also a part of the team in the 2022 Women's World Cup, which was also the only World Cup edition for them.

Her consistency in taking wickets and even restricting the batters to score runs was impressive for the team. She was also the skipper of the Bangladeshi team from 2014 to 2016, but was not able to give her best as a captain. So, she lost her captaincy post but continued to play for the team as a bowler.

3. BCB Starts Investigation

The Bangladesh Cricket Board also took a look at the statements which had been given by Jahanara Alam. Knowing about the seriousness of this matter, they have immediately ordered an investigation on this matter. A separate committee has been found for the same, and it has to submit the report within 15 working days.

The statement , “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has noted with concern the allegations reported in the media made by a former member of the Bangladesh national women's cricket team regarding alleged misconduct by certain individuals associated with the team.” The board also confirmed that they have started an investigation on this matter.

The statement further read, "As the matter is of a sensitive nature, the BCB has decided to form a committee to investigate the allegations thoroughly. The committee will submit its findings and recommendations within 15 working days. The BCB is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all its players and personnel. The board takes such matters with utmost seriousness and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.”
