The Chennai Super Kings did not have a good performance in the previous season. With the hopes of clinching its sixth title, the management knew it required several changes in the line-up. And the changes can only be made with some releases before the season.
the Chennai Super Kings have already thought of the players whom they will release in the upcoming season. With Ashwin already being retired, the expected release list adds five more names who will be missing out for the team.
1. Deepak Hooda
The first name to be released in the team will be Deepak Hooda. As an essential component of the batting line-up of the team, Hooda could not work effectively every time. He was purchased at 1.70 crores in the Mega Auction by the Chennai Super Kings.
But Deepak Hooda was not able to deliver the worth of the money to the team. He scored just 31 runs in 5 innings at an average of 6.20 and a strike rate of 75.60. With Hooda being released, Chennai Super Kings will be looking forward to some better options for the middle order.
2. Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar and Chennai Super Kings reunited in IPL 2025. It was hoped by fans that it would be a joyful reunion with Shankar, who began his IPL career with them way back in 2014. He was purchased by the team at 1.2 crore rupees during the Mega Auction.
On top of that, he failed to bowl even a single over, although as an all-rounder. Shankar got 118 runs in 5 innings and only one half-century. With the exception of one huge score of 69, Shankar could not deliver the green team in the other games.
3. Rahul Tripathi
In case there was a name that fans were expecting in the Chennai Super Kings release list, then it was Rahul Tripathi. The team took him before the IPL 2026 season in the hope of boosting their batting line-up. The hopes were soon flattered, Tripathi not being a good performer.
He had to score only 55 runs at an average of 11 in merely five matches that he played in the team. Hand in hand, his strike rate was only 96.49, which reduced the score of the team within the powerplays. Chennai Super Kings will now be enthusiastic to get a better batsman in the next season.
4. Sam Curran
It might be shocking for the fans to know that even Sam Curran is presented in this list. Although the list is yet to be confirmed, Curran was expected to be a part of the team for the next season too. In the Mega Auction, the team brought him for 2.4 crore rupees.
In the last season, he scored 114 runs in only five games, out of which his best score stood at 88. This means Curran scored 26 runs in the remaining four games. With the ball, he took just a wicket in five games, and his economy rate stood at 11.08, proving to be costly for the team.
5. Devon Conway
Another shocking release that the CSK fans could experience in the next season is of Devon Conway. Despite playing a crucial role for CSK in the IPL 2024 season, he finds himself on the cards to be released ahead of the next season. For a massive total of 6.25 crore rupees, CSK acquired Conway once again in the Mega Auction.
In the IPL 2025 edition, Conway was only capable of playing 6 matches in the club. He could have a 156 runs with 26 as an average in these games and had two half-centuries. The other teams could pay a lot of money to get Conway through the auction, provided that they purchase him prior to the next IPL 2026 season.
