Cricketers are often seen playing football while warming up for games, but Tevin Imlach extended that to the middle during the second Test against India in Delhi. The wicketkeeper-batter was seen volleying a ball that was going to hit the timber with his foot in the nick of time to extend his stay.

‌India had another dominant day with the bat against the West Indies in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. Shubman Gill joined Yashasvi Jaiswal with an unbeaten century as India declared their innings at a majestic 518/5 before tea.

The West Indies openers John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul started well to block out the new ball duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. But an unlucky Campbell was dismissed by a freakish catch by Sai Sudharsan on the stroke of tea.

Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze added 66 runs for the second wicket before a collapse saw them slide from 87/1 to 107/4. Tevin Imlach joined Shai Hope in the middle and had a nervous start against the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.

After five dot balls, Imlach went deep in his crease to defend a short of a length delivery from Jadeja that pitched on off stump and turned away. He played the red cherry with soft hands, and as a result, the ball moved towards him and the stumps after it was played.

The wicketkeeper-batter was alert and showed terrific reflexes to volley the ball away, with his foot, from the timber. It was a case of so near yet so far as the ball went to the backward point region.

The Indian close-in fielders KL Rahul and Shubman Gill had their hands on their heads as Jadeja wagged his tongue at the batter with a wide grin. Twitter was impressed with Imlach’s footballing skills, which came to the fore and extended his stay in the middle.
