He further , “I sent him a message a couple of days ago saying how proud I was of him. He’s obviously got dropped from the team. He’s gone back and he’s got four hundreds in five hits. It’s a pretty big statement. He’s obviously not selected yet, but he’s done a lot of things right.”
Marnus Labuschagne was also not selected for the India tour of Australia. But with his performances in the One Day Cup, he was able to bring himself back to the team. In 2019, Marnus Labuschagne got an opportunity to play for the Australian side against England. And this also came at the Lord's, a ground which is considered challenging for the batsmen. During the match, Steven Smith got himself injured in the game in England's second innings. As the innings came out of a concussion, Labuschagne replaced him.
The Australian side was also in fear and doubt, as they didn't know whether Labuschagne would be able to deliver as good as Smith. At the time when the team stood at the score of 47/3, Marnus Labuschagne stepped up. He went on to score 59 runs off 100 balls with 8 fours, before losing his wicket to Jack Leach. This helped Australia to end the game with a draw, as Labuschagne proved himself worthy to the team.
