Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have played together for Australia for several years. And fans can now see them playing again, if Labuschagne makes it to the Australian team for the Ashes. With his performances in the domestic format, the selectors are surely impressed to ensure his comeback.

, Steven Smith also spoke about Marnus Labuschagne in an interview, talking about his current form. Since Smith is expected to lead the team in the first Test, fans will be hoping to watch Smith and Labuschagne stitch a good partnership yet again, like they used to do.

1. Steven Smith on Labuschagne

Steven Smith recently had an interview where he talked about a number of things. His main focus was on the Ashes, where is the potential captain of the team if Pat Cummins misses out on the first Test. Smith first talked about Test captaincy, along with his form as a captain of the team.

Then he also talked about Marnus Labuschagne and his potential comeback to the Australian side. Labuschagne was excluded from the team in the series against the West Indies. Despite being able to perform well, he missed out on a spot on the international side. Now, with his performances in the domestic format, it looks like Labuschagne is eager for a comeback.

Steven Smith recalled his conversation with Marnus Labuschagne, , “He said to me at the start of the summer, ‘I’ll be in that Test team come the first (Ashes) Test. He’s backed up his words, probably.” This shows that Smith has been impressed with his performances in the domestic games.

He further , “I sent him a message a couple of days ago saying how proud I was of him. He’s obviously got dropped from the team. He’s gone back and he’s got four hundreds in five hits. It’s a pretty big statement. He’s obviously not selected yet, but he’s done a lot of things right.”

Marnus Labuschagne was also not selected for the India tour of Australia. But with his performances in the One Day Cup, he was able to bring himself back to the team. Labuschagne replaced Cameron Green, who has been ruled out due to an injury. His focus is mainly on the Ashes, which is set to commence from 21 November, as Australia has yet to announce its squad for the Ashes.

3. Labuschagne's Concussion Incident

In 2019, Marnus Labuschagne got an opportunity to play for the Australian side against England. And this also came at the Lord's, a ground which is considered challenging for the batsmen. During the match, Steven Smith got himself injured in the game in England's second innings. As the innings came out of a concussion, Labuschagne replaced him.

The Australian side was also in fear and doubt, as they didn't know whether Labuschagne would be able to deliver as good as Smith. At the time when the team stood at the score of 47/3, Marnus Labuschagne stepped up. He went on to score 59 runs off 100 balls with 8 fours, before losing his wicket to Jack Leach. This helped Australia to end the game with a draw, as Labuschagne proved himself worthy to the team.
