A batsman who could open for the team and even bat at any other spot consistently is difficult to find. But for the Indian team, it has been KL Rahul over the past few years. Whether he is sent to open or to finish the game,
For this, he has also received praise from the Australian bowler, Glenn McGrath. He talked about the versatile batting style of KL Rahul across different formats of the game. Moreover, McGrath put emphasis on how tough it is to adapt to different styles of the game.
1. McGrath on Rahul
The first ODI of the much-awaited India tour of Australia turned out to be a disappointment for various batsmen. At the time when India's top order failed to perform, KL Rahul took the responsibility to step up and perform well for the team. He came to bat at number six for the team, when they stood at the score of 45/4.
Even coming down the order, Rahul ensured to contribute to the team at his very best. He scored 38 runs off 31 balls, at a pitch where even the top order was not able to have a strike rate close to 80. Rahul came out to be one of the lone warriors for the Indian team in this game, despite the team losing by 7 wickets.
Glenn McGrath appreciated his performance, , “It must be tough for him to adapt. But he's one of the versatile players. He top scored for India in fairly tough conditions. So, from opening down to I am not sure how long he has batted. Sometimes that can mess with your confidence, but I think for him, maybe he's just used to it and adapts. He keeps as well, so he's a very versatile player.”
Such words of appreciation from Glenn McGrath show his faith in India's most underrated talent, KL Rahul. With two more games left in the ODI series, fans wait to see how he is able to contribute to the team in them.
