Guess Which Teams Are Dominating All Formats of Cricket.

Cricket is being played across three formats: Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. All these formats are a lot different from each other, allowing different teams to dominate. But, do you know which team has been able to dominate across these formats?

Cricket has evolved to a great extent. From Tests to ODIs, and from ODIs to T20Is, the game has moved more to the shorter formats. Despite the formats being different, the teams have been the same over the years, allowing them to adapt to the

There have been three teams that have dominated the three formats of the game. By domination, they have not just won the trophies; they have maintained an impressive winning ratio in the format they have mastered. Each format, holding its own levels, has allowed these teams to master them.

1. Tests- Australia

In the Test format, it is the Australian team that has been able to dominate. They are not just playing well right now, winning in both home and away conditions. The team has been able to release absolute carnage over their opponents in this format throughout the history of the game.

Australia in Tests:

  • Matches: 877
  • Wins: 422
  • Loss: 234
  • Draw: 219
  • Tie: 2
  • No Result: 0
  • Win/Loss Ratio: 1.803

In the history of Test cricket, Australia has proven itself to be the best team. They have also held the top spot in the ICC rankings for several years in the Test format. Known for having legends play for them, the team had some greatest players such as Sir Donald Bradman, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee, and many more.

Taking a look at the Australian side, which has helped them to dominate lately, the names are still among the very best. These include Steven Smith, Pat Cummins, David Warner, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, and many more. This year, Australia was able to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after almost a decade, winning by 3-1 at home.

Australia in World Test Championship:

  • WTC 2019-21: Third
  • WTC 2021-23: Champions
  • WTC 2023-25: Runners-up

Some of their memorable series wins include the Ashes, where the team secured a whitewash over England at home. Along with that, they repeated the same in the Ashes 2013/14, where they were yet again able to whitewash England in the home series. It should be noted that Australia has also won the World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.

2. ODI- South Africa

To the One Day International format, it is South Africa that has been able to consistently secure wins. The team started playing this format in 1991, a lot after the other full member nations in the ICC. But their dominant performances have helped them to be the team with more than 50% wins in this format.

South Africa in ODIs:

  • Matches: 692
  • Wins: 419
  • Loss: 246
  • Tie: 6
  • No Result: 21
  • Win/Loss Ratio: 1.703

Their aggressive batting and disciplined bowling line-up has been the reason behind their strong performances in the ODI format. Despite being the strongest team in this format of the game, they have also inherited the infamous Chokers tag. The only trophy they have won in this format was the 1998 ICC Knockout Trophy (now known as Champions Trophy).

Besides that, the team has made several notable appearances in the World Cup and Champions Trophy. But they have never been able to perform well in the knockout phases. The team has reached the semi-finals of the 1992, 1999, 2007, 2015, and 2023 World Cups, but never reached beyond that.

South Africa in the World Cup:

  • 1992 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 1996 World Cup: Quarter-Final
  • 1999 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 2003 World Cup: Group Stages
  • 2007 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 2011 World Cup: Quarter-Final
  • 2015 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 2019 World Cup: Group Stages
  • 2023 World Cup: Semi-final

Even in the Champions Trophy, South Africa won the inaugural title. Since then, the team has managed to reach semi finals of the 2000, 2002, 2006, 2013, and 2025 editions of the same. It is yet for South Africa to get an ICC trophy in this format in the 21st century.

3. T20I- India

In the shortest format of the game, India has established itself as the best team. It can also be known with the fact that India is heading to the 2026 T20 World Cup as the defending champions. Despite its transition phase, the team has managed to maintain its spot at the top of the ICC rankings in this format.

India in T20I:

  • Matches: 254
  • Wins: 170
  • Loss: 71
  • Tie: 7
  • No Result: 6
  • Win/Loss Ratio: 2.394

India's dominance in the T20 format is clearly seen by cricket fans all over the world. The team went through the last two T20 tournaments undefeated and even won the finals with ease. As of now, it seems that there is no close competition for the Indian team in the shortest format of the game.

The evolution of the Indian team in this format has been quick, which still puts them at the top. Earlier, the team had players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and a lot more who held the batting order. And with the ball, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, and many more.

India in the T20 World Cup:

  • 2007 T20 World Cup: Champions
  • 2009 T20 World Cup: Super Eight
  • 2010 T20 World Cup: Super Eight
  • 2012 T20 World Cup: Super Eight
  • 2014 T20 World Cup: Runners-up
  • 2016 T20 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 2021 T20 World Cup: Super 12
  • 2022 T20 World Cup: Semi-final
  • 2024 T20 World Cup: Champions

Even with most of these players being retired, the dominance is unmatched. The Indian team still has players like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and more, who are certified match winners. India has also won the T20 World Cup twice, once in 2007 and the next in 2024.
