Cricket Australia on Friday named the squads for the third ODI and five-match T20I series against India. Marnus Labuschagne was released from the former as Jack Edwards received a maiden international call-up, while Glenn Maxwell and Sean Abbott are set to return from injury for the T20I series.

Glenn Maxwell missed the T20I series against New Zealand but will be back for the series against India

Australia have made a couple of changes to their squad for the final ODI against India in Sydney on Saturday, having already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Marnus Labuschagne has been released to strengthen his bid for an Ashes spot as he will join Queensland for their game against New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield beginning October 28, with the Blues' skipper Jack Edwards rewarded for his strong domestic showings in recent times by being named the veteran's replacement. The Kangaroos also named a varied T20I contingent, with an eye on injury and workload management, headlined by the return of Glenn Maxwell from injury.

Edwards' call-up comes on the back of a brilliant tour of India as Australia A skipper, making crucial 80s in both the four-day and one-day format, while also scalping 4/56 in the opening List A fixture in Kanpur. Labuschagne, meanwhile, will have one last chance to impress selectors with the Ashes squad announcement due after the upcoming Shield round. The 31-year-old has scores of 160 and 159 already in the two Shield games so far this season, apart from two hundreds in three games in the One Day Cup, and is currently the forerunner for the vacant opening slot.

As for the T20Is, Maxwell is set to feature in the last three T20Is after missing the recent series against New Zealand with a wrist fracture sustained in practice. Pace bowling all-rounders Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis will also mark a return from injury, the former available for the first three T20Is after recovering from split webbing in his hand before he joins New South Wales for their fourth round Shield fixture as Ashes preparation. Hazlewood will already be there, the spearhead set to leave a game earlier.

Mahli Beardman will effectively replace the squad in the veteran with the young Western Australia pacer named in the squad for the final three T20Is. The right-arm quick shot to the limelight last year with a searing U-19 World Cup campaign where he was named man of the match in the final for terrorizing the Indian batting order with figures of 3/15. The rookie has just five List A games and two T20s under his belt, the latter two coming for Perth Scorchers where he impressed with 3/17. He has started the One-Day Cup season with five wickets in two encounters, and holds the ambition of touching the 150ks mark.
