Women's WC | Sri Lanka and Pakistan bid goodbye in Colombo with fourth no result of tournament

Pakistan and Sri Lanka's World Cup campaigns came to an uneventful end at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday as rain forced the match was called off. The toss was delayed by over three hours to begin and the weather cleared only to allow 26 balls of play before relentless showers returned.

Pakistan ended the Women's World Cup winless as they suffered a third washout across their last four outings in the tournament, all in Colombo. The fixture on Friday was also Sri Lanka's last game at the event and a third washout, having already been eliminated from a semi-finals spot by India's win over New Zealand the previous day. The Women in Green have thus risen to seventh for the time being with three points along with a horrid net run rate and will only slip
Heavy showers at the start of the encounter were followed by consistent drizzles and passing showers, leading to several inspections and resumptions times to be postponed over and over again. The toss finally took place at 5:45 PM, over three hours after the originally scheduled time of 2:30 PM, where Chamari Athapaththu won the coin flip and opted to bowl first against Fatima Sana's women. Muneeba Ali and Omaima Sohail walked out to bat for the visitors and managed 18 runs in 4.2 overs, the latter stroking a gorgeous cover drive for four in her run-a-ball nine, before a slight drizzle converted into a full-blown deluge within moments to force both contingents off the field.
A few minutes before the scheduled cut-off time of 8:33 PM for a 20-over encounter, the umpires decided to call it a day as both captains shook hands. This was the fifth washout of the event, all of which have taken place in Colombo, making it the second most weather-affected edition in history after 2005 (eight no results) and more thean doubling the total no-results at Women's World Cups since.
Rain Chaos
Almost all matches scheduled at Srilanka have been washed out. It's not fair for any of the teams. Scheduling must consider local weather conditions before hosting important matches.
