But eventually, he got snubbed from the Indian team for the next test series against the West Indies. This must have been frustrating for Karun Nair, who waited for so long to make his comeback to the Indian team. Targeting the selectors, he said that he deserved more than one series for the hard work he put into the game.
1. Karun Nair's Domestic Form
If there was something which helped Karun Nair to mark his comeback to the Indian team, it was his form in the domestic tournaments. With the help of his performances in the Ranji Trophy, he was noticed by the BCCI selectors and chosen for the team in the Test format. Nair didn't only perform well in one tournament, but he also went on to continue across all of them.
In the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 edition, Karun Nair was able to score 863 runs in 9 matches at an average of 53.93, with 4 centuries and 2 half-centuries. This helped him to give a statement of intent to the BCCI selectors and eventually mark his comeback to the Indian team, opening the doors for him.
Later in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Karun Nair broke all records for having the highest average in the tournament. He continued his form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and even performed well in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. Across all the formats of the game, the comeback of Karun Nair was noticeable.

When the squad for the West Indies tour of India was announced, fans were disappointed not to have Karun Nair in the same. There were a number of common names, with several players being picked from the England tour. Some of the notable inclusions from the team were Akash Deep, Rishabh Pant, and Karun Nair.
For Karun Nair, it seemed impossible to be a part of the team in the future. But fans also knew that he was able to end the England tour on a positive note. At a time when other Indian batsmen struggled to perform well, Nair was able to stitch a perfect knock his first half-century in Test cricket.
The BCCI Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar, spoke on the snub of Karun Nair. He revealed that the team had much more expectations from Karun Nair, and they can't give 15-20 more chances to every player. With the Indian team having several options, he emphasised on the fact that the BCCI can't give more opportunities now.
3. Nair Scripting Another Return?
With the Test season going on for the Indian team, Karun Nair has returned to the Ranji Trophy. Playing in the same, when fans didn't expect him to return, he has given yet another statement to the BCCI selectors. Just two games have taken place for Karnataka in this season, and Nair in both of them.
In the first match between Karnataka and Saurashtra, he scored a half-century in the first innings of the game. And now in the match against Goa, Karun Nair has given a strong statement to the BCCI once again with the bat, by scoring 174 runs off 267 balls.
