Gautam Gambhir Comments on Suryakumar Yadav’s Ongoing Form Slump.

Gautam Gambhir recently spoke about the form of India's skipper, Suryakumar Yadav. The captain has failed to score well in the T20I games lately, which makes it challenging for him to regain his form. Ahead of the India tour of Australia, Gambhir backed SKY to come back stronger.

Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian skipper, is now failing to score runs for the team in the T20I games. His form has dipped to a great extent, which makes it challenging for him to create a comeback in the series against Australia. The T20I series will start from 29 October, as Surya and company

Before the series, the Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, talked about several things. India didn't start well on the Australian tour, losing the ODI series by 2-1. But he also remained optimistic about the team's performances in the T20I format, as the 2026 T20 World Cup looms closer. The captain will be eager to have at least two big knocks in this series and mark his comeback.

1. Gambhir on Suryakumar Yadav

Before the T20 series between India and Australia begins, Gambhir had an exclusive talk with JioStar. Talking about the form of Suryakumar Yadav, he said, “Honestly, Surya's batting form doesn't concern me because we have committed to an ultra-aggressive template in our dressing room. When you embrace this philosophy, failures are inevitable. It would be easy for Surya to score 40 runs off 30 balls and avoid criticism, but we have collectively decided that it's acceptable to fail while pursuing this approach.”

Gautam Gambhir also lauded the form of Abhishek Sharma, as he said, “Currently, Abhishek Sharma is in good form and has maintained it throughout the Asia Cup. When Surya finds his rhythm, he will shoulder the responsibility accordingly. In T20 cricket, our focus isn't on individual runs but on the brand of cricket we want to play. With our aggressive style, batters may fail more often, but impact ultimately matters more than mere runs.”

This shows that Gambhir is not much affected by Suryakumar Yadav not scoring runs for the team. Still, he is eager for Surya to regain his form, as he has been a crucial part of the Indian team for a long time. Moreover, he paid attention to the team's aggressive batting style, with players such as Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and many more, which has helped to hide such failures.

2. Suryakumar Yadav's T20I Captaincy Record

Suryakumar Yadav's record as a captain has been favourable to the Indian cricket team. As the team heads to the T20 World Cup 2026, being the defending champions, it is safe to say that the captain has led the team in the same way, without suffering from extreme losses. in his first-ever tournament in the Asia Cup 2025.

India went undefeated throughout the tournament and even defeated Pakistan three times in the same. This was the first trophy win for Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the Indian team. The consistency that has helped him to lead the Indian team to wins plays an important role in his captaincy stint, as he now eyes the 2027 World Cup.

In the 29 matches where he has led the team in this format, Suryakumar Yadav has been able to win 23 of them under his captaincy. This has put his captaincy a lot above Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, who have led the team in this format for years.

3. SKY’s Form in 2025

Suryakumar Yadav is suffering from a dip in form in 2025, as he struggles to score runs for the Indian team. A batsman who held the top spot in the ICC rankings a few months after his debut is now unable to score 50 runs for the team. Moreover, his average as the skipper of the team has dropped to 25.20.

  • Innings: 11
  • Not Out: 2
  • Runs: 100
  • Average: 11.11
  • Strike Rate: 105.26
  • High Score: 47*

The tour of Australia would be the right time for Suryakumar Yadav to bring his comeback and regain his form. He will be visiting Australia once again after his last appearance in the T20 World Cup 2022, where he scored 268 runs in 6 matches at an average of 59.75, with three half-centuries.
