Catches win matches and Will Young exactly did that during the second ODI against England in Hamilton on Wednesday. The New Zealand batter pulled off a stunning effort, while fielding at point, to end the visitors’ skipper Harry Brook’s stay at the crease in a game-changing moment.

New Zealand beat England by five wickets in the second ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Pacer Blair Tickner made a memorable return to the Kiwis’ ODI side with an impressive spell of 4/34 in eight overs as the visitors were skittled out for a modest 175 runs in 36 overs.

In return, the hosts managed to go past the target despite Jofra Archer’s hostile spell of 3/23, including four maidens, in 10 overs. Opener Rachin Ravindra (54) and Daryl Mitchell (56*) scored half-centuries during the chase as the home side closed off the chase in 33.1 overs.

England captain Harry Brook would be guilty of throwing away his wicket, during England’s innings, as he tried a bit too far to clear his counterpart Mitchell Santner. Brook was looking good at 34 off 33 balls before a rush of blood saw him chase a flighted delivery that pitched on a length before turning away from him.

The England skipper tried to go over the infield as he played the ball away from his body only to be stopped by an extraordinary effort from Will Young. The New Zealand batter was ready at point, going airborne in a full-fledged dive towards his left and pouching a full-blooded drive with his left hand.

Young’s catch was a turning point in the game as Brook threatened to seize the momentum with a counterattacking innings. His catch reminded the cricketing world of Glenn Phillips, who has owned that piece of real estate on the ground with his stunning efforts.

Twitter was in awe of Young as he channelled his inner-Phillips to give the Kiwis a much-needed breakthrough.
